Road Trip: The Must-Haves You’ll Need Before You Set Out

Road trips are a great way to enjoy the freedom summer has to offer and experience the wonders that the world has to offer. Even though road trips can be spontaneous and exciting, it is always best to be prepared for any possible scenario. Here are a few must-haves for a summer road trip.

W Toyota - July 30.jpg

Road Essentials

Any time you are driving, it is crucial to have your license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Hopefully, they won’t be needed, but they are important to have just in case. In addition, a spare tire (as well as knowledge on how to change it), an empty gas can, a gallon of water (not for drinking) and any other vehicular fluid are important to have in the event of a breakdown. If the problem is not overly complicated, it is best to have the resources available to fix it rather be stranded while waiting for AAA.

Besides vehicle maintenance items, it is also great to have both a paper and digital map, a phone and charger, non-perishable food and a pack of bottled water (THESE are for drinking), a list of emergency contacts, a swiss army knife, a flashlight, a first-aid kit and cash.

Comfort

Even though these are comfort items, anyone who’s taken a road trip before can tell you that they are just as essential.

Even though food was already listed, it’s imperative to have road snacks. Everyone gets the munchies eventually and it’s best to be prepared. You also want to have toilet paper and baby wipes. You never know when the gas station may be out of TP. Baby wipes can be a quick fix if something spills and can help you feel refreshed if you aren’t able to reach a shower right away.

Speaking of refreshed, don’t forget to bring travel deodorant. You don’t want to be stuck in a car that smells like body odor. Put it in a small self-care bag with your toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, and face wash.

For entertainment, create a playlist of your favorite songs on any music app (Spotify, Pandora, etc.) to keep yourself upbeat while on those long roads. It also helps to bring some CD’s in case there’s no internet. Books are also great to bring if you aren’t driving or if you want to stop and relax.

You should also bring a pillow and blanket in case you need to nap at a rest stop or if you plan on camping. This, along with sunscreen and bug spray can help bring comfort in uncomfortable situations.

Now that you’ve checked everything off your list, go and head out on the roads! Enjoy ever experience your road trip has to offer.

Organization Tips for your Vehicle

Your vehicle’s interior can get messy, especially when you have young kids riding with you. Between the food, games, and every day necessities that you keep in your vehicle, it can be tough to stay organized.

W Toyota - August 27.jpg

Here are a few tips to help you stay organized behind the wheel of your car:

  • Keep collapsible bins in your trunk to utilize for groceries, or every day essentials. When the bins are not in use, fold them up and store them in your trunk so that they are there when you need them.
  • Keep a coupon organizer in your glove box for important papers such as your vehicle’s registration and proof of car insurance.
  • If you have young children, use a remote control caddy to keep activities, small toys, or non-perishable snacks in, by placing it under their car seat, and draping over the side of the seat.
  • Use a cereal container as a garbage bin, to avoid having garbage lying in the floor board of your vehicle.
  • Use over the door organizers to drape over the back seats (if you drive a vehicle with a hatch back), to keep every day essentials in, such as wet wipes, tissues, paper towels, etc.
